Even though most of us have busy schedules and not much time for reading, I still believe in books and how helpful it can be to have a good book to refer to when you're job hunting, working on your resume, or trying to figure out everything you need to do in today's competitive job market.

With summer vacation time and shorter than normal work weeks at some employers, there may be a little more time for reading than usual.   So, consider adding a book or two that will help your career to your summer reading list.

This summer, there are plenty of good books to choose from, but given that most people don't want to spend all their time reading serious books, pick a couple from my short list and give your career a boost.

Social Networking for Career Success
Confused by social networking as it relates to your career? Not sure how to use social media to your advantage when you're job searching? Expert Miriam Salpeter's book will help you with every step of the process from creating an online presence to using social networking effectively and efficiently.

Resumes for Dummies
The latest edition of Joyce Lain Kennedy's definitive guide to resume writing has all the information you need to know about resumes in this new era of job searching and recruiting.  It's full of advice, including how to write an inclusive core resume, how to target a specific job and tailor a resume to a particular industry,  as well as the best ways to avoid common resume-writing mistakes.

Lies, Damned Lies & Internships
Five-time intern, career expert, and experienced hiring manager Heather R. Huhman explains everything not only prospective interns, but also employers, legislators, universities, and parents need to know about internships, the hiring process, the misconceptions, the controversies, and how well-run internship programs work.

Customer Service: New Rules for a Social Media World
Peter Shankman's book is written for companies and focused on how they can use social media effectively to engage customers, to provide terrific customer service, and to build an online presence and a brand that works. Take that concept a step further and consider yourself as a company or product and it's why this book is a must read for anyone who is job searching or working on boosting their career.
