Companies Using Social Media for Hiring

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) reports that the number of companies using social networking sites, including LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, to recruit increased from 34% in 2008 to 56% in 2011.  In addition, the number of companies who don't plan to use social recruiting dropped from 45% to 21% during the same time period.

As you might expect, the social networking websites poll results report LinkedIn as the most used site for sourcing candidates, with 95% of companies that use social media websites recruiting on LinkedIn.  Facebook came in second with 58%, followed by Twitter at 42% and professional association sites at 23%.

In what's good news for job seekers who have profiles on social networking sites, 72% of companies search for candidates using the website's search feature.  63% created a group or page to attract candidates.

What this means for job seekers is that it's even more important than ever to be prepared be found by companies who use social recruiting strategies.  In addition, it's also important to conduct be proactive and conduct social job search so you're in the right place and right time if a company is looking for someone with your skills and experience.
