When you want to find a local job you'll be able to job search more efficiently if you narrow your options when you look for jobs.  This way, the  job listings in the results of your searches will show listings in the city or town, or in close proximity to, where you want to work.

Start by using the job search sites that focus on local jobs.  Also be sure to use the job search engines to search by a radius of your town and by keyword.  Many job sites will let you search a radius (0. 5, 10, 15, 20 miles from the city) to get a greater selection of job postings.

Check the online help wanted ads for your local newspaper - most newspapers have local job postings.  If your Chamber of Commerce has a job board, check that, too.  You'll find jobs from smaller companies that don't advertise on a regional or national basis.   If you're looking for a retail position, walk around town or the mall to see who is hiring.

The more you narrow your job search, the better luck you'll have finding listings that a good match for both where you want to work and for your skills.

Here's more on finding a local job including ten steps you can take to find a new job. And to take it a step further, here's more advice on how to find a job, including online job searching, career networking, social networking, and more advice on how to find a job - fast.
