I was on the radio with MarketWatch's Adrienne Mitchell last week and one of the things we talked about was job searching the old fashioned way.
We discussed the resume black hole and how many applicants never receive a candidate rejection letter or any other notification that they aren't being considered for the job.
On a related note, we talked about how it's important to remember that people help people get jobs and the importance of not counting on finding a job online. In addition to applying for jobs online and connecting on LinkedIn (and Facebook if you're using it for professional as well as personal networking) spend time job searching the old fashioned way - in person.
Attend networking events and job fairs, have a cup of coffee with your business acquaintances or pick up the phone and make a call.
Given the job market, which isn't improving significantly, it's important to cover all the bases with a multi-faceted job search. Doing so will give you the best shot at finding a new job sooner rather than later.
