I wrote about cover letters not being tweets when I heard from more than a few hiring managers who wondered if cover letter writing was a lost art. One of them told me that he had received a lot of cover letters that are shorter than tweets including a cover letter that said "Have a nice day." and another that said "Please view my resume."
I guess I should have said that a cover letter or an email message inquiring about a job isn't a text message either. If anyone thinks that an email message which starts out "u shud hire me b'coz..." is going to help with their job search should think again.
If you do just one thing when you're writing cover letters, take the time to write words and sentences. Check your punctuation and spell check and proofread your letter before you send or upload it.
Do the same with every employment-related email message you send. Your letters and email messages should include words, not acronyms or slang, full sentences, paragraphs, and detailed information on who you are and why you are writing.
Here are email cover letter tips including how to write, format, address, and send an email cover letter - the right way.
