Gulf Oil Spill Unemployment and Employment Resources

Workers in the Gulf region who have lost their jobs because of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill may be eligible for unemployment benefits and/or loss of income compensation from BP.

Gulf Unemployment Information

Residents of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas who have been impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill can find information on filing for unemployment insurance, One-Stop Career Center closings, and a variety of other employment assistance and social services resources.

CareerOneStop's Deepwater Horizon Response website  provides information on a range of unemployment, employment, and related resources for individuals and businesses affected by the Gulf oil spill.

BP Loss of Income Claims Information

For people who do not qualify for regular unemployment insurance benefits, like the self-employed, compensation may be available from BP.

BP has established a claims line for oil spill-related claims, including loss of earnings.  The phone number to call is 1-800-440-0858.  There is also a form to report loss of income available online:
