There's often the perception that LinkedIn is for professionals, not for college students or recent graduates.
That's not the case though, and LinkedIn is as great a networking and job search resource for those who are just starting a job search as it is for those who have been around for a while.
If you're not sure how to get started, take a look at these tips from LinkedIn. They will help you create your profile and start connecting:
Once you have created a profile, check the Groups section of LinkedIn for groups affiliated with your college or university. You'll find alumni who can assist with your job search and job postings specifically for candidates from your college.
Here's more on how to use LinkedIn, including what to include in your profile, how make connections, get recommendations, and build a network.
In addition, join the LinkedIn About.com Careers and Job Search Group for advice from About.com's career experts, discussion on job search topics, and job leads.
Here's how can you ensure that you're not missing out and you're using the full power of LinkedIn to network and job search.

Great article. LI is one of those tools that just works. At least in the US. I know it has a great international following, but cannot speak for it’s effectiveness over seas.
I find myself swooping by LI numerous times during the day. Especially now that HootSuite supports direct posts to my LI status. And the free version has been perfect for my needs for many years.
