Holiday Travel Plans? Bring Your Job Search

Are you traveling for the holidays? You never know when (or where) you'll meet someone who can help with your job search or who can boost your career. I, for example, met several people in Megeve, France with connections to the type of work I do in the United States. A colleague of mine met someone at the airport who ended up being a business partner. Someone else I spoke to recently ended up getting a new job because she connected on an airline flight with a person who happened to work in the same industry, and who happened to be hiring for a job that was a perfect fit.

When you're traveling and job searching, it's important to be able to keep track of the new connections you meet, and to stay in touch with those you already know. You don't want to miss out on a job opportunity or a conversation with a connection who can help build your career, because you're not at home or out of touch. It's also important to be able to respond in a timely manner to prospective employers.

Staying connected will help your job search, regardless of where you are located. As long as you have the right job search travel tools with you, you won't have any problems accessing voicemail, email, or the Internet. To help with staying in touch, I recently got an iPhone, which, besides being one of the coolest toys I've ever had, quickly has become an essential tool I can't do without.
