How to Find a Holiday Job

Wednesday November 19, 2008
Seasonal jobs, at least in retail, are in shorter supply this year than in the past. Some retailers are cutting back on hiring additional help, but if you're proactive, you can still find yourself a job.

Job searching the old fashioned way is a good idea if you want to find a job fast. The stores that are hiring usually have applications on a table in the front of the store and they are so simple that they only take few minutes to complete. Before you go, make a quick list of all the information you'll need, so you're ready to complete an on-the-spot job application, and review these holiday job search tips. Dress appropriately, be ready for an interview, and you may just have a job offer much sooner than you expected!

If you live near a ski resort, they're hiring, too. You don't need to ski or snowboard to get a seasonal job - there are lots of inside jobs available in customer service, marketing, hospitality, and a variety of other areas. Check with the ski resort where you're interested in working or stop by the Human Resources Office if you're nearby. Again, being proactive makes good sense.

If you have some extra time, volunteers are especially needed during the holiday season. The Salvation Army is looking for bell ringers and other volunteers, and there are lots of other ways you can volunteer your time, if you have a little to spare.
