Unemployment Claims Questions and Answers

Monday October 27, 2008
Getting through to an unemployment office seems to be getting harder and harder. One unemployed worker told me, "I had to call more than 20 times to get through to my state unemployment office! I just sat there in front of the TV and called over and over." Another commented on my unemployment extension blog post, saying, "I put my extension in, but no one could get through the phone lines in Michigan for days. When I finally got through, I was told that I would receive the extension, but something was wrong with my payment."

This would be the third week in a row that my checks have been returned to sender. I have contacted the post office, and they have not given me an explanation. I would like the funds directed towards the automatic deposit account once it is established.

(7) ryan says:

My hours were cut from full time 40 hours down to 30 hours a week. I know if work 3 10 hour days I would be eligible for one day of unemployment benefits. However, my company will not allow this, so my question is what if I quit and use the arguement that the pay I get out of 30 hours a week is not enough to live off of, which is true, its not…Does this qualify me for unemployment benefits, or will they say work was available and you denied it?
