Ski Resort Jobs - On and Off the Snow
I had an interesting conversation with someone at a party in Killington, Vermont this weekend. He told me that as soon as he sees a serious snowflake or two, he gives two weeks notice to the company he's working for. He heads for the slopes and starts his seasonal ski resort job. While he works on the slopes, his wife works in the reservations department.Actually, I think there were more people (of all ages!) at the party who did the same thing, than there were those who worked at regular jobs. They make do during the off-season with temporary jobs, just so they can spending the winter skiing or snowboarding.
If you're looking to find a ski resort job this winter, now is the time to be looking. Ski resorts are hiring, so don't wait until the last minute to get started on your job search. CoolWorks, for example, already has a lengthy list of ski resort jobs posted.
Here are the type of ski resort jobs available, plus how to find a ski job. Also, check directly with the ski resorts, where you might like to work. Most have employment information on their web sites.
Another alternative to consider is boot fitting. If you have a reputation as a competent, trained bootfitter you can take your pick of shops and be a top paid employee with a season pass. Take a look at how to become a bootfitter, from Mike Doyle, About.com's Skiing Guide for the details.
