Twitter and Your Job Search

Thursday June 26, 2008
Twitter is micro blogging - snippets of text about what you're doing. Twitter is a quick and simple way to keep in touch with your contacts and, this is why I'm mentioning it, it can help you find a job.

Twice yesterday, one of the people I follow on Twitter mentioned they were hiring, and posted a link to the job listing, so a follower could apply or refer someone to the opportunity.

Employers are using Twitter, too. Zappos, for example, has a link to Twitter on their home page, so you can see what Zappo employers are doing now and the company is using Twitter to recruit. Rainier PR has recruited and hired using Twitter. Many other companies have a corporate presence on Twitter. Search by the company name to find them. Here's more on how Twitter can help job seekers.

If you need help getting started, Linda Roeder, About.com's Guide to Personal Web Pages, has information on how Twitter works.

You can follow me and the About.com Job Searching site on Twitter.

(1) John Leger says:

I recently created a Twitter account not only to search for jobs, but so those interested could follow my job search. I made my twitter page accessible from my portfolio site in hopes that potential employers would see who else i’m interviewing with and when. My intent here is to try and motivate employers to action. After all, a little friendly competition over someone and the possibility of loosing that someone to another company could be motivational. We’ll see if it works. :-)
