Help Finding Your Dream Job
If you're in the market for the job of your dreams or, more simply, for doing something different with the balance of your career, there are several new books that will help you figure out what you want to do and how to go about doing it. Retire Retirement, by Tamara Erickson, has advice on reinventing your career, figuring out what engages you, and scheduling your work around your life, rather than the other way around. Test-Drive Your Dream Job, by Brian Kurth, founder of Vocation Vacations, provides advice on how to spend some time doing what you really want to do (rather than what you have to do) and how to explore the possiblities of designing a dream job. Escape from Corporate America, by Pamela Skillings (who is also About.com's Guide to Manhattan) helps you assess your current job, identify your true calling, and find jobs that are a good fit for what you want to do.
Considering that I just spent a week in France, where I spoke with quite a few Americans who have made their home in the Alps, The Grown-Up's Guide to Running Away from Home, by Roseann Knorr, gave me food for thought. It's full of practical advice on how you can turn your dream of living abroad into a reality - and it really doesn't sound that complicated. It's well worth reading for anyone who has even thought about living overseas.
