LinkedIn Adds Photos

Thursday September 27, 2007
LinkedIn, the online professional network and a terrific resource for job seekers and career builders, has announced that users will be able to add a professional photo to their online profile. However, LinkedIn isn't following in the footsteps of Facebook and MySpace. The focus remains on professional networking, with LinkedIn recommending either uploading a headshot or uploading a larger photograph and editing it into a headshot. Please follow that advice and be sure that the one photo you can add reflects your professional presence.

Users will have the option of deciding who sees the photos - you can let the entire LinkedIn network see it or limit it to some or all of your connections. On the flip side, employers who use LinkedIn for recruiting can search the network without viewing photos, in order to comply with hiring and workplace regulations.

I've mentioned before that LinkedIn is an essential tool for anyone who is job searching or growing their career. I've almost lost count of the number of contacts from the past I've been able to connect with or who have found me on LinkedIn. If you're just getting started with LinkedIn or not quite sure what to do once you've created a LinkedIn profile, Jason Alba's book I'm On LinkedIn, Now What? will get you going on the right track.
