Second Life and Job Searching

I've read a lot about Second Life and job searching recently. Dawn Rosenberg McKay, About.com's Career Planning Guide wondered, last week, whether Second Life Can Help You Get Hired? There has been quite a bit of news about how "real" companies have a presence on Second Life and how they are using it to recruit "real" employees.

I've spoken to several hiring managers and recruiters, some of whom aren't too sure that they would want to hire an avatar, as well as job seekers. They are all interested in the potential impact Second Life could have on job searching. In order to get a better handle on it, I recruited one of my colleagues to create an avatar - Henna Humby - in Second Life. She's in the process of growing her career and was more than willing to give virtual career building a try.

Henna Humby has completed orientation and is on her way to seeing what she can do in her Second Life. I'll keep you posted on her adventures as she progresses. Her appearance may change along the way, too. I'm very interested to see how this turns out!
