CareerBuilder's Chimps Get Pink Slips

Friday February 2, 2007
CareerBuilder's chimps, the stars of CareerBuilder's Super Bowl ads for the last two years, have been given a pink slip. Maybe that's not such a bad thing, given the email I got from animal rights activists last year when I wrote about how the chimps amused me.

This year, new ads that focus on the workplace as a jungle - It's a Jungle Out There - are debuting. The ads target dissatisifed workers and feature topics like pointless meetings, painful performance evaluations, promotions, and starting a new job the hard way.

If this is starting to sound like your workplace, maybe it's time to start considering whether it's time to make a move and start a job search.

Alison,

While I agree with your thoughts that employers need to pay greater attention to the working environment to reduce turnover and increase employee satisfaction I don’t think the CareerBuilder ads made any sense.

As an employer do you really want to source your prospective new employees from a company that specifically is advertising to attract the dissatisfied worker?

As a career driven professional, do you really want your resume mixed in with the target employee audience either?

That aside, the ads weren’t even that good and didn’t make it into the top 10.
