Managing Your Job Search with JibberJobber

Wednesday January 31, 2007
One of the questions that comes up often when someone is job searching is how to keep track of everything you do - the resumes you have sent, the people you have networked with, when you are scheduled to interview, and the thank you and follow-up letters you've sent. I've seen it done via spreadsheets and contact managers, as well as the old-fashioned way - with pen and paper. All of which are a pain in the neck and cumbersome, at best!

Now, there's a more effective way of managing your job search. JibberJobber provides an easy way to keep track of all of the information that you collect during a job search. Track where you have sent your resumes, the jobs you apply for, and log the status of each job as you proceed through the hiring process. In addition, you can track your personal networking contacts and keep a log of how they have helped you, as well as connect with them on LinkedIn.

Another reason that JibberJobber is useful is because it allows you to manage and track important relationship information over time. Most people change jobs every few years, and keeping your JibberJobber account up-to-date with information on your contacts and companies will help you on an ongoing basis as you build your career. You'll also be well positioned for your next job search, without having to start from scratch.

This is an excellent resource for anyone who gets overwhelmed by managing job seach information - it's easily accessible online and simple to use. The basic version is free (premium features like expense tracking are available for a fee) so it's an excellent tool for getting and staying organized.

Alison, thank you for posting these tips on JibberJobber for your readers. Jason has done and excellent job of championing the cause of the job seeker. The
JibberJobber feature set grows steadily as his community of users make suggestions. He is passionate about helping folks manage their personal relationships and manage their personal career brand. I look for great things from Jason, and I look for the user community of JibberJobbers to grow exponentially as folks get exposed to it.

The premium features set is well worth the tiny monthly investment. If one were to cut out 2 cups of Starbucks a month, they could purchase a career tool set account that will help them manage their personal/business relationships for the rest of their career. I don’t know about y’all, but I can make that sacrifice.

I’ve tried keeping organized using a combination of Outlook, Excel spreadsheets, notes on the back of business cards, printed organizer books etc. It can work but it takes a lot of work. JibberJobber nicely puts all of this in one place and frees up time and keeps me organized on my real goal - my job search
