Giving Thanks

Wednesday November 22, 2006
For some reason, or another, Thankgiving is the time of year when I'm always reminded of the volunteers who donate their time to help those less fortunate. There are lots of ways to help. From volunteering overseas with the Peace Corps to spending a few hours a week helping a local non-profit group, your contribution can be as much, or as little, as you can spare.

Volunteering can also help with your career. A colleague who tired of the corporate life used her volunteer work at a local dog rescue group as a stepping stone to a full-time position at an animal shelter. Another included the web design and management she did for the same dog rescue group in the portfolio which help her start her own successful business. Here's how to find a volunteer opportunity that matches your interests, and the time you have to spare.
