Avoiding Employment Scams

Scam job postings, the ones that want you to send money or promise you’ll get rich, are a big problem on work at home job sites. However, bad job postings get through the screening mechanisms on other job sites, too. I’m starting to see more jobs that aren’t legitimate, even when searching very specifically for a job in a certain geographic location or a career field that wouldn’t involve working at home. Given the quantity of jobs that are posted online, I’m not surprised that some fall through the cracks and get listed. So, it’s important to be careful when job searching.

To avoid get scammed, carefully check out any job listing that sounds questionable. Here’s how to evaluate job listings and avoid employment scams.

To avoid a scam when reading job postings, do NOT call or inquire to jobs that are not fully described. Potential “scam” employers will leave you out of the loop until the last second, when it’s too late and there is little you can do except quit. So, watch out! If in doubt, stick with major chains and well-known companies.
