Unemployment Down Slightly

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the unemployment rate was down slightly, from 5.1% to 5%, in October. Nonfarm payroll employment increased slightly, by 56,000. Increases were in the construction industry, financial activities, and health care. While jobs were lost in the hospitality and information industries. The unemployment rate for hurricane evacuees was estimated at 24.5%. The jobless rate among those who have not been able to return home (33.4%) was substantially higher than the rate for those who were able to return home (10.5%).
