Unemployment Unchanged

Friday January 7, 2005
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment was stable in December. Both the number of unemployed persons, 8.0 million, and the unemployment rate, 5.4 percent, were about unchanged from the prior month. Employment increased in education and health services with overall number of jobs gained at 157,000. A total of 2.2 million jobs were added to payrolls in 2004. The statistics don't always tell the real story though. Take a look at some of the numbers behind the numbers - the real unemployment statistics.
